Obituary

Zavier Joseph Esch, 22, of Urbana, passed away unexpectedly on June 17, 2021 while living his life to the fullest, which is what he did every day.  He was born on December 24, 1998, our best Christmas surprise, in Bellefontaine to Michael E. and Melissa J. Esch.

Zavier graduated from West Liberty-Salem High School in 2017 where he participated in Cross Country and Track.  After graduating high school, Zavier made the decision to follow his older brother's path and enlist in the Air National Guard.  He graduated at the top of his class from basic training as an Honor Graduate.  Senior Airmen Zavier Esch served honorably as a Radio Frequency Transmissions Systems Journeyman and was a decorated member of the 269th Combat Communications Squadron. With unmatched enthusiasm and discipline, Zavier supported numerous events and exercises including Northern Lightning, Chemical Biological Radiological Nuclear Task Force (CBRN-TF), Joint Task Force D.C. in support of the Presidential Inauguration, and Exercise Copperhead Beacon. His infectious attitude and uplifting demeanor elevated those around him and will leave a lasting impact on all who knew him. He loved the work he did in the Air National Guard and talked very highly of everyone in his unit and was currently up for a promotion to Staff Sergeant.

Zavier was currently a student at THE Ohio State University where he was planning on graduating in the Spring of 2023 with a bachelor's degree in Aeronautical Engineering and minor in Aviation.  He loved his Buckeyes and was very proud to be a student there. He aspired to obtain a pilot's license to enjoy traveling.

Zavier is survived by his parents Michael E. and Melissa J. Esch, two brothers Zakery (Claire) and Zane and Zane's girlfriend, Lauren.  He also leaves behind a maternal grandmother Barbara (Griner) Kwiecinski of Lima and a paternal grandmother Jean (Esch) Picklesimer of Huntsville.  He is survived by many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends who all experienced so many laughs with this young man and made so many memories, ones that will never be forgotten.  I also want to give a special thanks to the Yoder Family for always welcoming him and our other boys into their home as if they were their own.

Zavier is preceded in death by two maternal grandfathers, Gene W. Griner and James R. "Jim" Kwiecinski, and a paternal grandfather, Rev. Donald J. Esch. He will finally get to meet his two grandfathers Gene and Donald at the gates of Heaven.

This young man had a huge heart and always a smile on his face.  He always called himself "Dr. Angel Child" and now he definitely is our "Angel Child".  We love you son/brother/friend and you will never be forgotten, and we will hold all the memories and laughs you gave us close to our hearts.  Remember, it's never "good-bye" but always "see you later" and in this case on the other side of those pearly gates!

A Funeral Service will be held Monday, June 28, 2021 at 12:00 p.m. at Jennings Farley & Seeley Funeral Home and Crematory. Visitation will be held Sunday, June 27, 2021 from 1:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Burial will take place Monday in Highland Memorial Cemetery following the service.

Zavier was never one to enjoy dressing up, so please feel free to come dressed casually or in your favorite college game day attire for the viewing.

If you would like to make a donation, the family is requesting it be sent to Pilot Dogs, Inc., 625 West Town Street, Columbus, OH 43215 in the name of Zavier J. Esch as he loved being involved with the puppies his brother Zane raised.  Pilot Dogs, Inc. is a non-profit organization that helps impact and improve the lives of the blind and visually impaired individuals.
