Obituary

On Saturday March 30th, 2024 Susie N. Null was welcomed into heaven by loved ones she was eager to embrace. Surrounded by her family members and friends once again, I can only imagine it was a joyous reunion and one I wish I could have witnessed.

Susie was born on July 1st, 1935 to Loren and Emma Osborne in Clay County, West Virginia. Beginning at a very young age she had a thirst for learning and taking in the world around her. Growing up Susie always had a shy demeanor and loved to get lost in books. It came to no surprise that she would continue on her love for education and learning by becoming a teacher. Although helping others learn and embrace life came so naturally to Susie, her main gift was being the best mother, grandmother, and friend that anyone could ever hope to have. Her love was infectious, her loyalty was unwavering, but her ability to make you feel heard and important in this world was something you'd have to experience to truly understand.

She was a proud graduate of Marshall University, so it was no surprise that when football season came around she had to remind me of her loyalty to the Thundering Herd. Susie left West Virginia after college to continue her career of teaching in Ohio, where she retired as a first grade school teacher at Southeastern Elementary in Bellefontaine. Throughout her career of teaching Susie was able to help mold and nourish the minds of countless children, which was only one of her many contributions to this world. She was a fierce advocate for all women and reminded me often to never forget the strength a woman brings to this world. Her sense of humor was right on time and could lighten any situation that found itself too heavy. In her spare time she enjoyed fun shopping days, antiquing, listening to music (especially Elvis), and finding the time to stop at a few yard sales along the way.

Susie is survived by her granddaughter Alexis Dillin (Jessica), great grandson Alexander Carter, and son John Dillin. She was proceeded in death by her parents, Loren and Emma Osborne. Her daughter Debra Null, her grandson Brandon Carter, and many other loved ones.

The family would like to thank everyone who has reached out to share their  condolences, prayers, and love during this hard time.  It would be easy to write a book to describe what this woman meant to this world, and I still don't think it could cover everything. Susie was a bright light that could illuminate the darkest room. She exuded the epitome of what I believe to be a truly good human being and to know her was to love her. If I could end this on a message that was a true reflection of Susie it would be this; In a world full of reminders of how different we all are, try to see how we are similar first. Life is a journey for all of us and it takes zero effort to treat people with kindness and grace before judgement and ridicule.
