Obituary

Patricia Anne Dorsey, 93, passed away on February 12, 2025, in Dublin, Ohio. Born on November 17, 1931, to Arby and Ruth Burkey in Toledo, Ohio, she was the eldest of five children and a beloved mother of two, stepmother of five, grandmother of 12, and great-grandmother of 16. The Burkey family owned and operated Burkey Market general store in Ai, Ohio, where Pat worked as Treasurer of Fulton School and Clerk-Treasurer of Evergreen Local Schools. Pat loved to tell her grandchildren stories about her life growing up, from using a broom to avoid an especially aggressive rooster en route to the family's outhouse to playing pranks with her three sisters on their younger brother throughout their childhood.

She married her husband, Leland, in 1970, and the couple moved to Bellefontaine, where they would become pillars in the community. Pat worked as Office Manager at Mad River Mountain and Secretary at West Liberty Salem Local Schools. She impacted the lives of many in Bellefontaine through her volunteer work, including at the Holland Theater and as bookkeeper for the International Friendship Center of Logan County, an organization that provides language interpretation services, temporary housing, and community support for international students and  families. She regularly wrote letters as a pen pal and visited Suzuka, Japan, during her tenure with the organization. Pat enjoyed hosting family Thanksgiving and New Year's Eve celebrations each year. She passed down several family traditions, such as baking her Aunt Isabelle's family Christmas cookie recipe every December and a love for card games, especially spades and hearts.

In 2016, she moved to Columbus to be near her daughter's family. The last several years of her life were spent at Dublin Assisted Living (DAL) and Memory Support in Dublin, Ohio, where she made an impression on the staff as an exceptionally kind woman and a ready smile. Pat's window at DAL was decorated with several stuffed Snoopys in homage to the Snoopy-themed Christmas tree she decorated every year and the Peanuts wall calendars and birthday cards she often received from her family.

She is survived by her children Kathleen (Alan) Kinnard and Bruce Simon; stepchildren Barbara Beroske, Linda (Mark) Sivakoff, David (Julie) Dorsey, Lois Ann(Rob) Goveia, and Stephen (Diane) Dorsey. Also surviving are grandchildren Kelsey (Jason) Hessler and Kiley Kinnard; step grandchildren Todd (Marcy) Keefer, Douglas(Stacy) Keefer, Kristen (Mendon) Dornbrook, Andrew (Victoria) Briggs, Ryan (Tilly) Dorsey, Marlena (Christian) Outlaw, Christopher (Gina) Schwalbe, Ria (Willie) Perez, Conner (Sydney) Dorsey, and Jacob (Rebecca) Dorsey. Others surviving are sisters Phyllis Ulrich and Penelope (Richard) Reder, brother Quentin (Diana) Burkey, and 16 great-grandchildren.
