IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Loraine D
Goodwin
November 17, 1938 – May 2, 2020
Loraine Passed away May 2, 2020 in
Fredericksburg, Virginia and will be buried at Highland Memorial Cemetery,
West Liberty, Ohio. She was born the November 17, 1938 in Wayne
County Indiana to her parents, the late Ralph Walter Hickey and Helen (Love)
Hickey. She leaves behind four siblings, John Hickey, Charles Hickey, Nancy
(Hickey) Trout, and Terry Hickey. She was the oldest of eight siblings whom all
lovingly referred to her as "Sis". Loraine is also survived by her five children,
Katherine (Smith) Higgins, Tina Marie (Smith) Manns, Nicholas Smith, Karen
(Smith) Webb, and Michael Smith. In addition, she had 22 grandchildren, 21
great grandchildren, and 1 great, great grandchild all of whom she dearly
loved.
Loraine attended Catholic School as a child in Ohio, participated in
Choir and maintained a busy social life. She graduated from Indian Lake High School in 1956 where she
made lifelong friendships that she maintained up until her passing. Shortly after graduation, Loraine
married Jimmie Smith and started a family. She loved being a mother of 5 children and enjoyed cooking
for large family get togethers. Later in life this led her to be a successful restaurant entrepreneur, "just
for fun".
Loraine was a lifelong learner, taking nursing classes when she was in her 60's so that she could
work with Hospice patients. She enjoyed being of service to all. Loraine also loved writing poetry and
corresponding with family and friends as often as possible. She loved a good debate and did not shy
away from stating her opinion about life or any other subject!
As a devout Catholic, she dearly loved the Lord and shared that love with her children, grandchildren
and her many other loved ones.
Loraine had a wild, wonderful spirit and an infectious love of life and an absolutely, beautifully
genuine soul! But on the 2nd of May, Two Thousand and Twenty, the Lord decided that he needed her
back after allowing us to be with her and share in her love for a short 81 years.
Until we meet again Mom, your Five Jewels...
