Obituary

Kathleen E. "Gram" Ricketts, 99, passed away peacefully early Friday morning, December 10, 2021 at Logan Acres Senior Community in Bellefontaine, Ohio.

Gram was born May 19, 1922 to the late Forest and Lena (Pence) Comer in their home in rural Champaign County. She graduated from Zanesfield High School in 1940. In 1942 she married Myron Jay Ricketts, who preceded her in death on November 30, 2007. Gram was also preceded in death by two sons: Myron Dean in 1962 and Michael Keith (Vicky) in 2006; sisters: Imogene (Arthur) Clapsaddle in 2010, and Treva (George) Clapsaddle, 2014; brothers: William (Sandy) in 1977 and Paul (Julie) in 2016.

Gram is survived by her son Ronald (DeeDee) Ricketts and daughter in law Vicky (Penhorwood) Ricketts; sister in law Sandy (Oder) Godwin; granddaughters Beth (Doug) Lantz, Amy Ricketts, Shelby (Matt) Haley, Cori (Phillip) Morse; grandsons Matthew (Kim) Ricketts, Jeff Ricketts; great grandsons Blake (Mackenzie) Lantz, Oliver Morse; great granddaughters Brittany Lantz, McKenzie Haley, Kameren Haley, and Jazmyn Haley; several nieces and nephews.

Gram worked for Eckrich and B & M, handing out samples in local IGA and Kroger grocery stores. She was a long time member of Zanesfield United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, and the Worthwhile Club of Zanesfield. She enjoyed traveling the United States and camping in a pop-up tent camper.

Gram was happiest when she was surrounded by family and friends, and enjoyed it all the better when it was outdoors. She hosted countless campouts, get-togethers, Ricketts family reunions, and Kroger employee picnics in the shelter house at "Idlenot Acres Farm." There was almost always a cozy fire to gather around up on "the hill," and through all four seasons she delighted in the adventures that could be enjoyed by all – hunting morel mushrooms in the spring, walks in the woods (Gram loved to explore the ravine with her grandchildren and taught them how to really appreciate nature), softball and wiffle ball games, shuffleboard, fishing in the pond (or ice skating and sledding when the weather turned), wiener roasts, and so much more.

Gram enjoyed the simple pleasures too. She loved going to see her grandchildren's sporting events. She enjoyed playing Euchre, Yahtzee, and working on puzzles. On Saturday evenings, she had her music show with Marty Stuart. She enjoyed her flower gardens and her fish pond and seeing the interesting (and sometimes exotic) birds that would turn up at her numerous bird feeders. She loved exploring the farm on her golf cart. She loved mowing on her zero turn, seeing everything look so nice and smelling the fresh cut grass. Gram's favorite spot to go on the hill was "the rock." She and Jay always loved the view from there.

Gram took great pride in being a homemaker and hostess. She was an excellent cook who loved to bake pies and breads for her family. She even hosted annual donut making parties at her house. But she especially enjoyed the traditional Christmas Eve dinners and other holiday meals that brought her big family together.

Gram welcomed everyone into her home with an open heart, and we take comfort in knowing that she is now at peace, surrounded by laughter and love.
