Jimmie A. Carter
Jimmie A. Carter, 86 of Bellefontaine, Ohio, passed away, on November 4, after recently relocating from Fairfield Glade, TN.
Born July 14, 1934 to the late George A. and Gladys L Carter (Malott) in Williamsburg, OH he was preceded in death by his sisters, Betty Carter and Juanita Miller, and a grandson Adam Ryder.
Jim married Mary Nedra Stout September 4, 1954 in Williamsburg, OH and survives along with their four children C. Elizabeth (Mike) Wallace of Bellefontaine, OH, L. Susan (Jim) Dornberg of Carleton, MI, John (Barb) Carter of Payne, OH, Scott (Marnee) Carter of Quincy, OH, 7 grandchildren, Mindi (Nicholas) Fisher, Kyle Dornberg, Lindsey (Cory) Cook, Alex (Jessica) Dornberg, Brian (Mindy) Carter, Amelia (Chad) Small, and Jed Carter and 9 great-grandchildren; as well as his brother Jerry (Donna) Carter.
He was a 1952 graduate of Williamsburg High School and a standout in both basketball and baseball. He graduated from Ohio University in 1957 with a B.S. in education. He served as captain in the Army Reserve and Jim was honorably discharged in 1965. After college Jim continued his passion for boys basketball as head coach and teacher for Quincy H.S. which consolidated to Riverside H.S. a tenure that covered 17 years. He also served as alethic director at Riverside for a time. He then went on to teach and head coach the Indian Lake boys' basketball team until 1980, retiring in 1986. He also coached softball and Jr. High football at Indian Lake. After retiring Jim also served on the school board for Riverside Local Schools.
After retirement Jim and Nedra moved to Fairfield Glade, TN where he enjoyed golfing, fishing, and Elks. He was an active member in the Fairfield Glade Community Church. He enjoyed traveling to watch the Lady Volunteers Basketball team, during the glory years with Pat Summitt at the helm, and became a season ticket holder. He had a love of woodworking and creating Intarsia pieces. He enjoyed making these for his family and made over 150 custom pieces.
The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to the staff and medical team at The James at OSU Wexner Medical Center.
A private family service will take place at a later date.
The arrangements are in the care of Jennings Farley & Seeley Funeral Home and Crematory.
