IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Homer
Taylor
June 16, 1923 – April 16, 2019
Homer Benjamin Taylor, a lifelong resident of Logan County, was born June 16, 1923 to Benjamin and Margaret Reames Taylor on the Taylor Family Farm, established near Zanesfield in 1806. On the evening of April 16, 2019 Homer went to his heavenly home to be with his Lord and to be reunited with his wonderful wife of over 70 years, Betty Curl Taylor, and their special daughter Kathy, who transitioned to the heavenly realm in April of 2000. Homer's life was filled with lots of "f's"... faith, family, farming, friends, fishing and, perhaps as a result of living through The Depression, frugality. Homer was a "farmer's farmer", growing both crops and farm productivity in great abundance. Although he left school prior to graduation to work with his father on the farm, Homer was a lifelong learner, always seeking to embrace the latest innovative idea, practice, or piece of equipment to benefit his yield. As a result, throughout the years he and Betty received several honors for their implementation of soil and water conservation practices and the modernization of their farm. Homer also took some satisfaction in owning the first "Bobcat" loader in the entire valley. Homer and Betty were great partners in life and on the farm, as they worked together to raise their daughters, consistently improve their crop and dairy operations, share the gospel through their multi-decade involvement with the Logan County Weekday Religious Education ministry, travel extensively throughout North America, and enjoy their immediate and extended family.
Homer is survived by family members who enjoyed many wonderful times at the Taylor farm, Lake Erie, and Homer and Betty's Bellefontaine home. Those who continue to miss Betty and who are already missing Homer include daughters Pamela (Paul) Gutshall and Cynthia "Beth" (Jud) Ross; grandchildren Amy Gutshall, Suzanna (Andy) Tobe, Rachel Gutshall, Rebecca Ross, Benjamin (Kacie) Ross; great grandchildren Dustin Tobe, Adaline Tobe, and Weston Gutshall; nephew Dick (Alice) Campbell; and sister-in-laws Joan (Don) Holycross and Martha (Will) Taylor. Homer also had special place in his heart for sons-in-law Gary (Kathy) O'Neil and Paul Gutshall, who preceded him in death; dear church friend Kathy Heater. Pastor Wayne Downing and the church family at Goshen Friends Church; special friends John and Melba Breidenbach and his other wonderful Stonebridge neighbors, his Lake Erie Green Cove friends, the Boysel Family, special fishing buddies from over the years, and countless others.
Arrangements: Homer's calling hours and memorial service will take place on Friday, April 26, 2019 at Goshen Friends Church, 5527 County Road 153, Zanesfield, OH 43360 . Calling hours: 3:30-5:00 PM Memorial Service: 5:00 PM, with a provided dinner following for those who wish to partake.
