Obituary

Donald Logan Newlon, 76 of Bellefontaine passed away Tuesday, February 11, 2020 at Belle Springs Nursing and Rehab Center surrounded by his family.

Don was born September 11, 1943 in Cincinnati to the late Logan Edward and Dorothy Louise (Sweeney) Newlon. On September 11, 1965 he married his bride and lifetime partner of 54 years Jeraldine Sue Schild in Cincinnati.

Don was well-known in the Bellefontaine community for having four passions in life.  He was an avid sportsman, playing golf, softball and bowling for many years in local leagues, and was a vigorously engaged spectator, especially in support of his alma mater The Ohio State University.  Don's work developing new IGA stores for Super Foods, Inc is still visible in many cities and towns today as a testament to his skill and integrity in the grocery industry.  Don's commitment and love of service as a Sunday School teacher for High School students and adults led him to pursue a second career as Lay Minister and Associate Pastor at First Christian Church, where he also served as an Elder and a board member at various times.  Finally, Don was renowned for his devotion as a leader and supporter of his family, finding a way to get home from the road for every evening and event, and using everyday moments as teaching opportunities for his children and grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, Jeraldine Newlon; children, Lesley (Tim) Rowan, Don II (Kelly) Newlon and Matthew (Monica) Newlon; grandchildren, Christian, Garrett, Jonathan, Paige, Joshua, Hannah, Rachel (Nathaniel) Charlesworth, Caleb and Greyson; great grandchildren, Carter, Zayden and Ella; his siblings, Tom Newlon, Lisa (David) Kiraly, and brother-in-law, George Shepherd as well as many nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Jean Shepherd.

A Funeral Service will be officiated by Rev. Kevin Greenwald on Friday, February 21, 2020 at 3:00 p.m. at the First Christian Church, 215 E. Sandusky Ave. Bellefontaine, OH, 43311.
