Donald Graves

Donald Lynn Graves, 76 of Bellefontaine, passed away sleeping in his home November 19, 2025.

Born February 1, 1949 in Bellefontaine, Ohio, he graduated from Bellefontaine High School in 1967 and joined the Air National Guard in 1969. He spent his time in service making a lasting impact across all branches, traveling the world, and making some lifelong friendships. He is also a graduate of The Ohio State University with a degree in telecommunications and a bachelor’s in business management.

He married the love of his life, Barbara Ann Tanger, who was killed in 1982 by a drunk driver. He raised their daughter, Bethany Kay, with the help of family and friends and returned to work and service where he met Carol Sue Kerns, who he married in 1983. He gained two stepdaughters, Tammi and Shannon, who remember him for fun travel times and vacation trips to the beach.

Don moved to Florida in 1984 and built his home in Brooksville. He always had an open door for friends and family to come and visit. He attended Grace Brethren Church and met Teresa who he married in 1991 and gained 5 stepchildren- Chad (Teresa) Thomas, Jennifer (Jason) sharp, Jessica (Paul) currier, Megan and Brandon.

He retired from military service in 2009, and civil service in 2013 and truly enjoyed his time with friends and family, whether it was playing cards, singing karaoke or just getting together for a meal. Since moving to Florida, he has been close to his Garman cousins while never forgetting his Ohio roots (as they have memories of winters together there as children). All the cousins were there to help him as his health declined, including Marcus being upgraded to nephew status, living with him and keeping his spirits high.

Don is survived by his sister Carolyn Stewart, daughter Bethany (Jason) Buck and three grandkids- Joseph, Caleb and Becca; nephews Jeremy (Chrissy) Stanley and Jayson Stanley. Numerous cousins, most notable Alan (Beth) Garman, Daryl (Kelly) Garman and Connie (Nick) Reynolds.

Graveside services will be held Saturday April 4, 2026, at Highland Memorial Cemetery Gazebo. Local arrangements are in the care of Jennings Farley & Seeley Funeral Home.
