Obituary

Donald Lee "Colonel" Johnson, 83 of Bellefontaine passed away Sunday, December 13, 2020 at the Campbell Place Nursing Home.

Colonel was born April, 28, 1937 in Pemberville, OH to the late Forest M. and Eloise M. (Sanders) Johnson. On December 18, 1971 he married Connie Kay Abbott, who survives.

Colonel served his country honorably in Korea in the US Army. Upon his return home he went to work for a few railroad companies; New York Central, Penn Central & Conrail Railroad. He retired in 1999 as a Lieutenant after many decades of service. Colonel was a life time member of the First Lutheran Church of Bellefontaine. He was an avid Cincinnati Reds fan and a volunteer for Habitat for Humanity. Colonel loved spending time with his grandkids and taking them out for dinners. He was known to have never met a stranger and always had a story to tell. His sense for adventure on the road would always go on for miles and end up back home for a look through the newspaper and a crossword puzzle. Colonel will be deeply missed, not only by his family, but by all who knew him.

He is survived by his wife, Connie Kay Johnson; children, Tod (Katherine) Johnson and Tiffanee (Brian) Wagner; grandchildren, Whitley Baxley; Alexis (Cody) Johnston, Domonique (David) Wenger, Tyler (Sadie) Reasor, Olivia Reasor, Jagur Beaschler, Ryann Beaschler, Colton (Beth) Wagner and Logan (Kenzie) Wagner; great grandchildren, Hayden and Evelyn Baxley; siblings, Norma (Bud) Sweeney, Mike (Sally) Johnson, Jim (Suzie) Johnson, Valerie Cost and Mary (Dick) Heath, several nieces and nephews.
