Fleece Jr.
October 9, 1934 – June 14, 2020
Charles "Duke" Fleece Jr. of Bellefontaine, passed away Sunday June 14, 2020. He
was born October 9, 1934 to the late Charles and Clara Fleece. On June 25, 1954
he married the love of his life, the former Nancy L. Brown, and she preceded him
in death May 25, 2019. He was also preceded in death by brothers Albert Fleece,
Clinton Fleece, Richard Fleece, Terry Michael Fleece; and sisters Dorothy Fleece
Skidmore, Ida Rose Fleece, and Phyllis Fleece Zachariah.
Duke served in the United States Navy from 1952 until 1960 and was stationed on
the USS Franklin D Roosevelt (CVA-42). He served at the end of the Korean War.
He received the National Defense Services medal and Navy Occupation medal. He
was a Freemason. Duke retired from AP Tech, now known as AGC. After
retirement, Duke enjoyed bowling, showing horses, playing cards and dominoes.
Throughout his life, Duke remained very active and his other hobbies included
playing guitar, weight lifting, playing tennis, shooting guns, golfing, boating, water
skiing, swimming, spending time with his grandchildren, caring for his home and
maintaining a beautiful yard. Duke enjoyed riding motorcycles like his father and
started riding at the age of 14.
Duke is survived by his daughters Deb (Don) Proffitt, Cathy (Zane) Mathys, Chris
(Doug) Casey; Grandchildren Misty Centers, Christy (Joe) Newman, Logan (Jill)
Mathys, McKenzie (Chris) Lamb; Great grandchildren Samantha (Colton Krieger)
Davis, Mallory Centers, Rhys Bervas, Rhett Newman, Reagan Newman, Kamryn
Mathys, Emelee (Jared Abbott) Earick, Jesse LeValley, Cole Lamb; sisters Shirley
Fleece Isom and Sharon Fleece Liles; and many nieces, nephews and other
relatives and friends.
Pastor Bryan Meadows will officiate a private memorial service at Jennings Farley
& Seeley funeral home and crematory 5591 US Route 68 S West Liberty, Ohio
