Obituary

Carolyn Jean Barker, 86, of West Liberty, Ohio died Sunday, February 6 th , 2022 at Green Hills where she has been residing since February, 2021.  Prior to moving back to Ohio, she lived in Florida for over 20 years.

Carolyn was born July 29, 1935 in Washington Courthouse, Ohio to the late James and Stella Eva (Haas) Wackman.  She graduated from Washington Courthouse High School.

On August 19, 1956 she married the love of her life, Benny Barker, and he survives.  She was preceded in death by her daughter, Diana Barker Charalambous, three brothers, James Wackman Jr., Alex Wackman, and Jerry Wackman and four sisters, Judith Speakman, Mildred Irene Wackman, Freda Pitzer and Latrilla (Trilly) Coil.

Carolyn is survived by her children, Mark (Deb) Barker of New Albany, Ohio, and Michael (Devry) Barker of Bellefontaine, Ohio.  She is also survived by her grandchildren, Matthew (Amber) Barker, Michael (Natalie) Barker, Carolena (Lena) Charalambous, Loukas Charalambous and Ally Barker along with 3 great granddaughters, Scarlett, Lucy and Madelyn Barker.  Also, very important to mention are her "four legged" pet cats, Chloe and Clyde.

She had formally worked at Battelle Memorial Institute in Columbus, Ohio as a key punch operator for the military.  After her employment at Batelle, she stayed home to raise her children which she loved so very much as she did all children.  Over the many years of her life, she raised several cats, many that were strays and she didn't hesitate to take them in and love them and nurture them.  She even adopted a cat on vacation outside of the U.S.  You would often hear her ask "how many four legged friends do you have" and when the answer was affirmative, you would get the excited response of "Oh good".

Frequently Carolyn would break out singing with a little Zippity Do Da as she loved life, music, everyone she met and would do anything to add a little humor to your day.  Her extreme flexibility to touch her leg with her face even at 86 years old is something that will never be forgotten.

In her memory, hug your four legged friends or perhaps take one in and give it all the love you can.
