Obituary

Betty Dian Stonerock, 79 of Bellefontaine passed away on Tuesday, February 22, 2022, at The James Cancer Center in Columbus, Ohio, surrounded by her family.

Betty was born on January 14, 1943, in Quincy, Ohio to the late Harold and Martha (Hinkle) Landis and spent her entire life in and around Logan County graduating from Bellefontaine High School in 1961.  She worked for Honeywell Aerospace in Urbana for many years and retired in 2006.

In 1963 she married Carl Stonerock, who still survives.  She always referred to him as "#1," and would sign everything from notes to cards to him as "#2."  They passed this down to their children as well referring to them as "#3, 4, and 5."  Betty and Carl enjoyed 60 action packed years together, building a family, a home, and memories with their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren that will last for many lifetimes.

Betty was a 40-year member of Grace Chapel Church and enjoyed teaching Sunday School, especially to children.  Betty never knew a stranger, loved hosting and planning events, always on the go, and making sure that her life was full of joy.  She was an exceptional seamstress, sewing, creating, and modifying everything from blankets, to wedding, bridesmaids, and prom dresses.  She loved making the women in her life beautiful clothing for their special days.

Betty loved family gatherings, especially Easter, which gave her the opportunity to spoil her grandchildren and great-grandchildren by hiding hundreds of eggs in the yard for them to find.  Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were always delighted when they found that $1 bill egg!

Betty and Carl traveled constantly in their RV and spoke often about their month-long trip they took in 2006 right after retirement, in which they saw everything from the Mississippi River, Rocky Mountains, Las Vegas, and the Pacific Ocean.  She traveled up until last summer, enjoying one last trip south to Florida.

Betty is survived by her daughters Lisa (Thomas) Chapman and Cindy Stonerock, grandchildren Jaccolyn (Brian) Carpenter, Erica (Jason) Miller, Britni (Joshua) Wilkins, Charles Stonerock, and Taron (Rhianna Avila) Rogan, great-grandchildren Sean Carpenter, Adam Journey, Simon Wilkins, Tatum Avila, Josiah Miller, Christian Wilkins, and Ren Audrey Rogan due June 1 st , sisters Carroll (Rollie) Hoge and Jane (Mike) Webb, brother Bill Landis, sister-in-law Ruth Landis, and brother-in-law Tom (Pat) Stonerock, along with many nieces, nephews, friends, and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her beloved son Anthony "Tony" Stonerock, brother Ivan Landis, sister-in-laws Judy Landis and Nora Stonerock, niece Angel Webb, and nephews Christopher Landis and Tony Robinson.

A funeral service will be held on Friday, March 4, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. at Grace Chapel, 500 Linden Street, West Liberty, Ohio.  The family will receive condolences on Thursday March 3, 2022, from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Grace Chapel.  Burial will follow the funeral service at Fairview Cemetery in West Liberty. Pallbearers honoring Betty on her day of service include: Charles Stonerock, Taron Rogan, Joshua Wilkins, Jason Miller, Douglas Hoge and Michael Hoge.

Betty grew up on a farm and carried this tradition to her garden as well as tending the hundreds of flowers in and around her home and the church.  She made sure to always have bright and beautiful flowers to attract butterflies and hummingbirds.  To honor Betty the family asks that condolences, gifts and remembrances be ready to plant flowers to be planted in Betty's gardens.

Memorial Contributions may be made to the Grace Chapel Church, 500 Linden Street, West Liberty, OH 43357.
